Wordless Wednesday- what this isn't normal?

What do you mean? People don't go to the bathroom in just shoes with their pretty pink purses?

18 Month Stats and a Fluke

So we finally made it to Quinlin's 18 month well visit. Her stats- at 18 months, 16 days:
  • weight- 28 lbs, 6 oz- 91%
  • height- 32 1/4 in- 63%
  • head- 46.8cm- 56%

so she's still big- but getting taller- so not as short and plump looking. She did so good at her appointment! she performed on command, showed off all her body parts- even down to her teeth, jumped, etc. Her Dr said she's right where she should be. (It's funny because I look back and Owen was 25 lbs at that age- but also an inch shorter). She got a shot and we were on our way!

We came home and after our routine Dr visit/ Boston Market dinner, Quinlin was running around saying peepee, poopie. So I asked if she had to go potty and she ran right to the bathroom door. I sat her down using Owen's seat and before you know it- she pooped on the potty!

ignore the nakedness and crazy hair (I took her pigtails out prior to this adventure)
I couldn't believe it. when done, she even moved her stool to wash her hands. Either this girl wants to be an overachiever or she's been watching Owen a lot. I definitely will not push... I think she's too young- even though books say they can start at 18 months. I think she needs to learn her body and be able to recognize not only the urge to go, but the ability to hold it in. With Owen, I don't have to ever ask him if he has to go- he just goes when he needs to. So- we'll see what this leads to. I wont be running out to buy new underpants just yet!

Tell All Tuesday (a day late)

Since I was so focused on Owen's successful potty training, I missed tell all Tuesday. So-today it will be tell all tuesday Wednesday!
  • I am so proud of Owen. Last night he went to bed about 9:45 (after stalling). At 10:15, I heard him in bed talking about pee and poop. So- I ran down there expecting to see he had an accident, and he had to go. So- we rushed to the bathroom and he pooped and went right to bed. Yay Owen!
  • Woke up dry this morning! Such a champion
  • No accidents at all (so far). We are on day 5 of being out of diapers and in underpants only. Woo hoo!
  • Sick of all the potty training talk? sorry
  • Casey Anthony- OMG... disgusted. Nothing says innocent to me than competing in hot body contests and being out partying when you're daughter is "missing". Stupid young mom. I was 20 when I had Hunter- and would never have been doing any of the things she did if something had happened to him.
  • Edwards Pies- amazing. We just discovered them a few months ago (in the freezer section) and cannot get enough of them.. which I think is why I have gained a few pounds.
  • I can also admit that a few pounds may have come from the fact that I wait for my children to go to bed before I eat "the good stuff" just so I don't have to share. Is that wrong?
  • Because of those pesky 3 pounds, I attempted to start the couch to 5K workout... I ran with my sister in law, Jen, twice... She runs marathons... I can't even run 1/4 mile...
  • Hunter's going to work with a golf pro tonight- he's excited! we think his clubs are too big so we'll see if they can fit him properly.
to make up for my lack of pictures last week, and my picture overload this week... check out the cuteness:

If you listen carefully, you can hear Quinlin's attempt at singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". I love her voice!

And we are Potty Trained!!!!!!!!!

We did it! I was dreading potty training and the whole experience, but we did it! and Owen is a champion!!! I'm so proud of him! I picked him up from school on Friday and had him wear underpants from about 6pm- 9pm. He ran around in them, loved to feel like a big boy, loved to pee outside, etc. Potty training then began Saturday morning. At 8am, with his morning diaper change, he knew that was the last time he would wear diapers. We talked about diapers being for babies (diapers are for Quinny) was how he liked to look at it and we started our day!

I had read the 3day PT Method and was fully prepared for how tough it would be but spent the day watching the clock and watching Owen for signs of him having to go. We played around the house, went swimming and he did great. He would stop what he was doing to go pee. He was really starting to understand. I risked nap time and didn't want to put him in pull ups as the method says only underpants and crossed our fingers. And he woke up- dry! I was so excited! I cheered and screamed and he was so proud of himself. I ran out that night to Target to get a waterproof mattress protector for the night as I knew I wasn't going to cave in and have him wear pull ups. (Little did I know I wasn't going to need it)

Sunday morning, we woke up DRY! and he waited about 15 minutes until he peed which showed me he has great bladder control. We packed up our car and headed to Sean's parents for the day and I was slightly nervous about the car ride (1 hour, 45 minutes) but again he did great! we played around at the farm and came home that night.

same thing for Monday. I am confident enough to say he knows his body, knows when he has the urge to go, etc. He gets a little freaked out to poop (but after watching him for signs), he does it and all is fine! I think the keys to success are- do it when they are ready and can understand. I think it also helped that in the last 6 months or so, we would let him wear underpants here or there for a few hours at night before bed just to get the feeling of independence. So- I followed the 3 day but not to a T. We didn't have to be confined to the house...we just had to watch for signs.

Ok- so that was pretty much our weekend. you wouldn't even know it was a holiday. we just really wanted to lay low, enjoy some time to ourselves and get Owen in underpants. And- because my sister has requested pictures...without further adieu...

I am anxiously awaiting until about 11:30 am to call the daycare and see how he does. I gave them strict instructions of underpants only- and will be pissed if I pick him up and he's in diapers...

No other choice but to Withdraw

Those were the words yesterday I read on the note sent home from school. At the very end of the letter "Finally, if your child is not completely potty trained by October 3, we will have no other choice than to withdraw your child. Emerging 3's ratios will not allow for your child to remain behind in that room for an extended period of time, nor is it age appropriate. We would happily take your child back once he/she is potty trained; pending availability."

I read the letter and was dejected... kick him out for not being potty trained? He's not even 3 yet. Remember when I posted about it here? I was so excited about him pooping on the potty and that was almost a year ago (yikes!) although he has gone here and there- and a lot more recently as well. I think what bothers me the most is that he's most likely not even starting kindergarten until he is 6 (since he has a late summer birthday) and so technically their whole "age appropriate" theory is screwed up anyway since he isn't with the kids who he would be going to school with anyway. He's the youngest in his classroom as it stands now. I'd like to tell them to KMA, but I need to work and therefore, need a daycare.

So- I guess my upcoming 4 day weekend will be me, Owen and a toilet.

True Story

So- I'm at dinner yesterday with some of my girlfriends and I get a frantic phone call from Sean. Story goes like this... Sean was peeing and Owen decided he was going to go as well. So- Owen on the stool attempting to pee, and Sean in full pee mode. Owen slips, almost clocks his head on the back of the toilet and is about to go head first into the bowl. Sean acted fast to "save" Owen and in the meantime peed all over his head. So- he calls me as the shower water was heating up so they could both get cleaned up and the last words out of his mouth were "Fuck...I am going to miss the NBA draft cuz I peed on my kid".

Friday!

In honor of Rebecca Black- hahaha

I am so happy it's Friday (not enough to sing about it but the song is so annoying you end up catching yourself- ick).

Anyway- it was a good week. Work was very busy and some extra playtime with Hunter, so no complaints here. Owen also worked on potty training (kind of) this week. Sean's mom bought him underwear, so every night since Sunday, he has worn his big boy underpants for at least an hour just to get used to them. Last night was the longest he was in them- about 2 hours. No accidents, but he also wont go on the potty either. Sean made the mistake of telling him that the potty ate poo poo and pee pee so I think the poor kid is afraid he's going to get sucked in and eaten as well. I have the 3 Day Potty Training Method that I need to try as soon as I get three days off in a row.
He looks like such a big boy!!!

Ok- I haven't done my TV Talk in a while- we were so consumed with selling things on ebay (7 items and $165 later) and looking for new homes, that I neglected my dvr. Now that we have decided we are not moving for at least a few more years, I was finally able to watch a few of my shows:
  • Teen Mom 2- the only highlight of this week's finale was the wedding between Corey and Leah.
  • Grey's Anatomy- OMG- a musical? It's not Glee. I'm thinking they jumped the shark. It was a good episode in terms of the story line- and Callie can sing, but the singing just seemed to cheesy and corny to me. Wasn't a fan- though I have the song Story in my head from it.
  • American Idol- Loved Elton John week. Need to get into it more- I love Steven Tyler as a judge, but find myself watching Survivor instead of Idol if they are on at the same time.
  • Survivor- loving it this season so far. Glad Russell is gone. I have my episode from this week dvr'd and hope to watch it today with Hunter.
Speaking of today- half day at work and then he and I are going to another movie. Off to see Source Code- will let you know my thoughts of it on Monday during my weekend recap. Other than that, usual errands tomorrow followed by a night out of drinks and bowling with a group of friends and finally meeting my nephew on Sunday. Have a great weekend!

Tell All Tuesday

  • I missed my weekend recap- but we had a nice weekend. Friday night we had a date night and went to Bonefish Grill. The wait was an hour so we sat at the bar and had a drink and an appetizer. we finally sat down and had our dinner and afterwards, instead of going to the bar to watch basketball, we came straight home. Such losers. Saturday I helped my girlfriend register for her baby shower and then we went to lunch. So nice to have some girl time! Sunday Sean went to his parents house to help unclutter and organize in preparation for them to move up back to the area. with his dad's health deteriorating, they need to be closer. i stayed home with the kids and my parents came over. we had a nice dinner- i made Chicken bruschette bake and it turned out great. Quinlin loved it!
  • I took the day off of work today to spend the day with hunter. He's still sleeping so I made myself a hair appointment for later this morning. I cannot wait- it has been forever since I got my hair done... now the big question is- long or short? yikes!
  • After my hair appointment, I'm going to grab hunter and we're going to the mall for some shopping and lunch and then off to the movies. I'm looking forward to some me and Hunter time.
  • watching Teen Mom 2 on reruns this morning- these girls suck.
  • We picked out the stone for our bar and our buddy Jimmy came over a few days ago to measure how much we need. I am so excited about it.
  • We still have been browsing at homes. Found a ton we like but the timing just isn't right- I need to remove zillow from my Internet browsing capabilities.
  • I need to start potty training Owen...this will be a common occurrence in my tell all Tuesdays i think. ugh.
I think those are all of my random thoughts for the day!

Who wants a sucker?

Lots of small updates. I finally have settled the debate on what I was doing for our bedding. After dragging my sister to 2 TJ Maxx stores, 2 Targets, 2 Kohl's, Macy's and Bed Bath and Beyond, I finally decided to go with the following for our new Bed:

I think it will be perfect- especially since it's even being shown with an upholstered bed. I ordered it yesterday using coupons and gift cards so will be stalking my front porch every day for the next 8 days! The only bummer was that I couldnt find the coverlet in king... hopeful it is made in that size and I can find it in the future. I didnt get to see the bedding in person at either Kohl's store but did get to see other Vera Wang sets so could tell the quality and feel to it will be great! fingers crossed I love it in person!
Hunter started up with cross country. Running like crazy (I think, or so he says). His first meet is on Saturday and I'm excited to watch! We got all his school supply shopping done as well (I also dragged my sister to Marc's for that as part of our shopping excursion) and I know he is ready to head back to school and see his buddies. He went to Cedar Point on Saturday with Evan and had a blast. A nice way to end off what a sucky summer it has been for him.

Quinlin is amazing (as usual). Seriously the best little thing ever. Her new thing is rolling everywhere and talking up a storm. We changed her schedule at daycare food wise and I'm loving the fact that she is now up to eating 3 meals a day. She wakes up now in the mornings when I wake her at 6:45am and she has 5 oz formula. At school they feed her rice cereal and a fruit for breakfast at 8:00am, she gets 5 oz formula and a vegetable at noon and she gets 5 oz formula at 4:00pm. I pick her up at about 5:45pm and feed her dinner at 6:00pm- usually cereal and a "dinner". We have had great success with apples and chicken and chicken and broccoli but she wants nothing to do with Gerber beef and mixed vegetables. Sean reminded me that Owen didnt like the beef meals either which made me laugh. They're so similar. At 8:30pm, she gets her last bottle of the day and is off to bed. I love it. Another new thing for her is using the mesh feeder. I forgot we had one so was excited for her to try fresh fruit. We've only tried nectarines so far...Bananas will be tonights treat! And then there is Owen. His favorite thing all summer has been to be outside, and he recently discovered the slide at the playground in our development. He begs to go on walks just to go to the playground.

So Owen transitioned yesterday to Toddler 2. Its a room of kids from 25 months to 36 months and he actually has been spending his mornings with the kids and teachers as Toddler 1 is combined until about 9am. So- when i picked him up from school yesterday, he came running to me said he pooped and got his diaper change. when they finished changing him, he kept asking for a sucker. I found out that the kids who poop/pee on the potty get a sucker and that he had been asking all day. So- I took him home and he kept asking for suckers, we kept telling him he needed to use the potty, etc, over and over. After going in his diaper, sitting on the potty a few times, playing and asking for suckers, we continued to keep trying. And- lo and behold- he pooped. We were so excited for him- singing/dancing/praising, high fiving! He got his sucker! And, wouldnt you know- before bed, he had to go again, so back to the potty he went and back came the singing and praising! I would love to be done with diapers, but I am realistic and know we are nowhere near ready. But- if I can encourage him even a little bit, I will continue to do so.

So- what did I do this morning? I made a quick trip to Target and came home with suckers!
