I think we may have created a monster... or we are in process of creating one. Last Saturday, Quinlin did not want to nap for some reason. So- I asked her if she wanted to sleep in Owen's bed. She did and gladly went to sleep. Owen got up, went to nap in her crib for all of 5 minutes and then laid down with Sean. Well, Quinlin happily slept for about 2 hours and came out of her room upon waking up. We didn't think anything of it really.
We went out that night for a group night out (Bar Louie and the new Casino) and came home and our babysitter Danielle told us that Quinlin wanted to sleep with Owen and ended up falling asleep in his bed. Ok. No problem. We came upstairs and I moved a sleeping Quinlin to her crib. Well, the next night, Sunday, Quinlin cried and cried until we let her lay with Owen. And ever since, when we say bedtime, she runs into his room. Owen is so sweet and offers for her to sleep with him, doesn't seem to mind at all and it actually is really cute to hear the giggles down the hall in the evening.
Sean and I go to bed and ask each other "did you check on the old married couple?" or "what is the old married couple doing down there?". We have gotten used to it a bit. And of course, desperately need to buy her a big girl bed of her very own.
Now the problem.... we are staying put in our house a few more years, but a home has popped up on the market that we have always eyed...so? what to do? wait it out in case we have to put our house on the market? Her room with a full size bed is very small, it obviously looks bigger with her crib in there...Decisions, decisions. My hope is whoever were to buy my house would look as the 4th bedroom as a smaller room anyway to use down the road, so maybe since we have the other good size bedrooms it isn't a big deal. I guess we'll know this weekend and decide whether or not to just buy the bed and assume to adjust the room to look as big as possible.
In the meantime, I hope when she does finally get her big bed that she'll actually use it. I know she has enjoyed this time with her brother and he has as well.

Weekend Recap
Fairly low key weekend. I have been moreso referring to us as losers lately. we literally do nothing- but I guess that's what you get when you have two under two. Friday night we stayed in. I can't even remember what we did really- as sad as that sounds. Hunter slept over his friend Michael's house so I didnt even see him all day.
Saturday was a day of me and the kids. Sean went ice fishing for the day so I attempted to take the kids shopping. My plan was Target and then the mall (poor Quinlin still has no shoes). So- we got to Target and Owen decided he's a big boy and wanted to walk everywhere. So- he toddled along with Hunter as I pushed Quinlin around. First stop toy department to get a birthday gift for our neighbor Adam. Owen started picking out everything that was balls. He came walking to me wanting this
Um no...
we ended up getting Adam the Little People Airport
They had it on clearance for $19.99 so I bought one for my niece Grace too as she loves little people. By the time I had the toys picked out, we had been at Target for over an hour. I attempted to look for shoes but meltdown city happened. So- there I was- that mom- who had the crying kid in the cart that everyone was looking at. We rushed out of there and Hunter fed her in the backseat of the car. Needless to say, we skipped the mall. We came home, kids ate lunch and napped and waited for Sean to get home. He finally did around 5:15 and we were at our neighbors at 5:30 for the party. Late but there. We rushed out at 6:30 to get Hunter to his basketball game.
I dont know what is better... last year, Hunter was on a team that lost every game. This year, his team looks pretty stacked... some of the kids are on the school team and others play travel ball as well.
The final score
It's nice to be on the winning side of things. Hunter didn't get the ball at all though- and I think 3 of those 8 fouls were on him- oops. He's a defensive player through and through.
On Sunday- we road tripped it to Sean's parents house. we drove seperately as he needed to bring his truck down along with a buddy. So- at stop lights, I would send him pics of us so he would remember who we were...
We were only at his parents for a few hours but it was a nice little visit. We came home and set up Owen's new bed and then I rushed around doing laundry, cleaning the kitchen and just prepping for the new work week. Too hard to do trips like that on a sunday! I didnt even make it to the grovery store (I hope Hunter brought lunch money...)
On to the new bed- yippee!!! He is such a big boy now....my baby is really a little boy. Reality set in as we saw him in it this morning.
Owen playing with the tools as we started taking things apart
bye bye crib
Sean looks thrilled
Owen- more thrilled
all put together! I had debated on bedding and we decided- at least for now- that he can use our old bedding.
He loves it! This was just as he was going to bed.
and this morning- I couldnt wake him up
sound asleep
such a big boy ((tear))
I will say that I am so happy with our crib purchase. It's the Munire Majestic... really will be our furniture as he grows up...

The Crib Transition- Days 4 and 5
Well... not even back to square one. We put him back to bed on Wednesday night and he didnt want to go in his crib. He pointed to the floor where we still had a comforter and pillow and wanted to sleep down there. So- Sean tucked him in nicely and he didnt budge... we scooped him up again about 9:45 and put him in the crib. We're thinking now that maybe we'll skip the toddler bed and go straight to the full size... we just haven't bought a full size mattress yet. So- then the other question comes to play of what do we do in the meantime? do we continue to let him fall asleep on the floor? Do we move the extra queen mattress that we have in our house to his room and let him start sleeping on that? and- if we do that- will he be able to go from a queen to a full eventually? Yikes! I did not have a hard time like this when Hunter transitioned to a bed...
Thursday night was the same... after running up and down the hall for a bit, he finally got settled to go to sleep... on the floor. So- I let him fall asleep and again put him back in his bed about 10:00pm (at 9:30 he was still awake, but on the floor).
we'll see how this weekend goes- I'm wondering about naptimes the most!

Owen- The Crib transition- Day 3
As Monday night didn't go too well, we decided we would go back to the crib for night 3. We realized he was scared of his comfort zone being taken apart, so we wanted to make life go "back to normal" for him.
One happy camper!!!
One happy camper!!!
Or so we thought... He instantly climbed out of bed and layed on the floor. We had a comforter on the floor and a pillow in case he had fallen out of bed. Well- that is where he wanted to be. So- we let him fall asleep on the floor and I scooped him up and put him in his crib about 9:45pm.

The crib transition
So- the first night, as posted before, did not go well. Owen was constantly up and down the hallway and did not want to go to bed. This is my good sleeper- the one who loves bedtime- the one who when little would wave to you basically saying "i'm done- get me to sleep" and we would carry him off to bed. This is my good sleeper who now I would say, "Ok- Owen. 5 more minutes and then time to say night night." 5 minutes would pass and off to bed he went. Sound machine on- lights out- it had always worked like a charm.
So- Sunday night was the first night- ending in the crib being backward to the wall.
Monday night, we thought we would try this again. So- we did the whole 5 minutes to bedtime routine and brought Owen to bed. Bed, switched back to normal, but still with the front removed. Owen ran around down the hallway a few times and we finally got him settled in bed. He cried and would lay there (realizing he could get out if he wanted to) but would just cry and cry. Sean and I took turns getting him settled, talking to him, rubbing his back. Poor little thing was so tired too. I came to the realization that he was "scared" of his bed. This was his comfort zone and to not have the front on it was really throwing him off. I dont think he is ready to move yet to his big boy bed. So- we ended the night back to square one... with the bed turned and facing the wall. Owen went in it and fell asleep within minutes.

Owen- Look what we can do
Another eventful thing happened to us this weekend...
Sean looks thrilled doesn't he?
Owen loved helping...
Quinlin thought she was helping too. She just sat there and looked cute.
Then she saw Winnie the Pooh and tried to eat him.
Owen did not know what to make of his new bed..
We tried to put the bumpers on it still, but he wanted nothing to do with it.
Our finished product...
The day finally came. We have been hoping that it wouldnt get here and we could keep him contained for as long as possible. But- he did it. I was watching the football game on Sunday and Owen would not nap... he kept calling for me, kept throwing things out of his bed, kept spitting- all the things to get my attention so he could keep playing. I left him in there for about an hour and a half hoping that he would finally go to sleep. I was watching the game and Hunter was on the computer and we both heard a drawer close and then Owen say "mommy?". We looked at each other and both went to the hallway. There was Owen standing with a shirt. I couldn't believe it.
So- we had to start converting the crib.

We'll see how this "transition" and experiment goes...Updates to follow.
